“Ko tai whakarunga, ko te oneroa tapu o Mataora
Ko tai whakararo, ko ngā wai rōnaki o Harataunga
Ko Whaita te tapae toto,
Oreore kau ana ngā uri a Paikea-Moana-Ariki ki te Tara o te Ika-a- Māui”
We are at a critical time in our Treaty Settlement journey. This journey started when we registered our Ngati Porou Ki Hauraki Trust in 1987 and were recognised as one of 12 Hauraki iwi in the Hauraki Maori Trust Board Act 1988. We lost virtually most of our kaumatua from that time.
To progress our settlement, we need Ngati Porou ki Hauraki descendants over 18, to ratify our Post-Settlement Governance Entity (PSGE). This Entity (Trust) will receive our settlement redress when our settlement is passed into law. Information packs are being sent to all registered Ngati Porou ki Hauraki members from Friday 6 May. Whānau will be able to vote by ballot at our Information hui, by post or on our website.
The voting period opens Thursday 12 May and closes at 5pm on Friday 17 June.
