"Te kainga tupu!
Te ai ona rite
E kore e rite
The place where you grew up!
There is no comparison.
Nothing like it."
Te Kainga tupu - na Ta Apirana Ngata i tito.
Our marae are the heartbeat of our whanau. They provide a gathering place to celebrate special occasions in our lives, and to farewell loved ones during times of sorrow. They also provide a forum for our people to hui and discuss issues of the day, as well as learning centres to wananga and share our knowledge.
The Marae Life section of ngatiporou.com is dedicated to our turangawaewae.
If you are looking for contact information to make a marae booking for a hui, or want to learn the names of wharenui from different hapu, this section may be able to help you out. Fourty eight of our marae within our region have been identified, and have been arranged in order of Rohenga Tipuna (as per the Ngati Porou Deed of Settlement). Rohenga Tipuna are hapu and marae clusters based on shared ancestors, history and location.
If you want to learn what resources are available to help your marae, this section provides a good starting place to help you in your search.
If you would like to help add or update information or resources to Marae Life please let us know. If you have a marae panui you would like to communicate on the Nati Events section please submit your panui here. If you have a marae story you would like to share in Nati News or Nati Life please get in touch with us here.
