Wai Maori & Ture Whenua Maori Regional Update Hui Panui

On Monday 23rd January a regional hui will be held at Pakirikiri Marae, Tokomaru Bay from 10am – 1pm, to discuss Freshwater and Ture Whenua Maori kaupapa. The hui is part of the Regional Iwi hui the Iwi Chairs Forum are holding around the motu from 15th to the 30th January to provide updates about:

• (i) Freshwater: the process for finalizing Hapu/iwi rights and interests in freshwater; updates on the changes to the RMA and other major freshwater documents;
• (ii) Ture Whenua Maori: (1) the current state of the Bill (2) Whenua Maori Enablers (Valuation, Rating, Landlocked lands, Paper Roads and Public Works), the Maori Land Service and process going forward.

The feedback from these Regional Iwi Hui will be compiled in to a report which will be discussed at the Iwi Chairs Forum to be held at Waitangi on 2 February 2017.

Any agreed key issues will then be put before the Prime Minister and attending Cabinet Ministers when they attend the forum on 3 February 2017.

All information will be posted to www.iwichairs.maori.nz and circulated to Iwi through the Iwi Chairs Secretariat from 11 January 2017.
