Gisborne Photo News was a monthly publication from 1954-1975 with photos and stories from the Gisborne District. The site is a project of the HB Williams Memorial Library.
The site has great photos and stories of Ngati Porou life mixed in amongst the local Pakeha stories. Some are from the time but there also some great earlier photos as well.
You can browse by issue and date, or the site has an excellent A-Z of people page where you can search by name.
Another highlight is the interestingly named ‘Hori’s Page’ in some of the editions, which has a great selection of photos of Ngati Porou life, including lots of historic photos.
So either go straight to the site or to their useful help page to get started
There is a story from June 1965 of Ngati Whatua coming to Tikitiki to learn tukutuku and whakairo. The story includes pictures of: Lena Nukunuku, Paul Weka, Pine Taiapa, Koro Dewes and Hamana Mahuika
